The Kölner Haie
are among the top addresses of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) and are also one of the best-known ice hockey brands in Europe. Ice hockey has a long tradition in Cologne: almost 80 years ago, sport was already practiced in the cathedral city.

The success story of the Kölner Haie began with the founding of the association more than 40 years ago. The KEC was launched in 1972, until 2017 the sharks won the German championship eight times (last in 2002), seven more times the sharks reached the playoff-final (last in 2014), in 2004 Cologne won the national cup competition
.

Internationally, Cologne caused a stir with the Spengler Cup victory in Switzerland (1999), the Tatra Cup victory in Slovakia (2011) and the European Cup medals (silver in 1985 and bronze in 1989). In 2014, the KEC qualified for the newly founded Champions Hockey League.
