The Goldsee Lake Trail (Goldseetrail)

The mountain bike tour on the Goldseetrail does not only offer a beautiful view of the Ortler, but proviedes also information about the region through thematic panels.

General description

The Goldsee Lake Trail from the Stilfserjoch ridge at 2,757 m to the Furkelhütte mountain hut (2,153 m, possible refreshment stop) is the classic mountain bike tour in the Val Venosta/Vinschgau valley. The trail, originally constructed as part of the glacier front in the First World War, is open daily for bikers until 9am and after 4pm. In order to spare bikers the ascent via 48 hair-pin bends, a shuttle service is offered up to the Stilfserjoch ridge.

Route description

From the Passo dello Stelvio/Stilfser Joch at 2,754 m, the 3.5-hour route (path no. 20) leads to the cima Garibaldi and then over the Goldsee lake, to the rif. Forcola. After a stop for refreshments, you can take the chair lift or drive through the forest (path no. 17) down to Trafoi.

Description to arrive at destination

From Spondigna/Spondinig via the street to the Stelvio Pass SS 38 to Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch or Trafoi. From there you can take the bus to the Passo dello Stelvio. The Passo dello Stelvio ridge can be reached by public transport from the end of June to the beginning of October.

The tour is only available during a certain time window. The start must be no later than 9:00 am at the Stelvio Pass.

Parking

In order to get to the starting point of the Goldsee Lake Trail, the parking area next to the Hotel Bella Vista is the most suitable. The bus stop is directly next to the hotel.

Public transport

If you do not want to travel to Trafoi by private car, you can use the pubblic transport. With the bus line 271 you get from Prato allo Stelvio/Spondigna to Trafoi in about half an hour. From there you can take the bus to the Passo dello Stelvio.
