Montoni Trail

General description

This varied trail and mountain run circles the Montoni, the distinctive local mountain of the hamlet of Agums in Prad.

Route description

The Montoni Trail starts at the upper Suldenbach bridge in Prad and initially leads, on the orographic left side of the Suldenbach stream, into the valley. After about 1 km we ascend along four serpentines to the irrigation channel “Frauwaalweg” (trail no. 9), which we follow back down the valley. Another ascend along five serpentines leads us to the Patzleid barbecue area. From here we follow the initially wide archaic trail no. 11 to the ancient settlement site “Kaschlin-Bühel”. Shortly afterwards and before arriving at Stilfs, we keep following trail no. 11 to the Schartalm hut, which we reach along a partly very steep and dry terrain. From the Schartalm hut we continue briefly on a forest road and then on an old alpine path (trail no. 12) until we arrive at the Platzhof farm. We return to our starting point by passing the Mitterhof and Gargitz farms.

TIP: In spring and autumn you will come across numerous grazing sheep in the meadows above Stilfs.
