One of t most popular spots in Upper Venosta Valley is
Churburg Castle above Sluderno/Schluderns, a huge Renaissance castle, in which one can not only see Romanesque chapels and frescoes, but also a unique collection of arms and armour. Another must-see is the nearby museum in
Marienberg Abbey dealing with the history of the Benedictine monks there.
In the
Vintschger Museum in Sluderno, there are three permanent exhibitions on display: archeology and peasant life in the dry valley of Venosta. The focus is on the prehistoric findings of
Ganglegg and the ancient system of
irrigation channels that shape the landscape even today. The 3
rd permantent exhibitions tells the history of the ‘Swabian children’, all specifically relating to the Venosta Valley. Also worth seeing are the
heritage museum of Laudes/Laatsch, and the
gate towers in Glorenza/Glurns. The medieval town has also dedicated a permanent exhibition to its most famous sun, the artist
Paul Flora, in the church gate tower.
Two of the five South Tyrolean venues of the
Messner Mountain Museum (MMM) of mountaineer Reinhold Messner are within reach of Upper Venosta Valley, in Solda/Sulden and in Castel Juval at the entrance to Schnalstal Valley.
