L’abbazia di Monte Maria offre all’ospite diverse possibilita di raccoglimento. L’offerta “Monastero a termine”, e riservata ai soli ospiti maschi. Essi vivono insieme ai monaci, pregano, lavorano e mangiano insieme a loro. Nelle sale espositive, nelle camere degli ospiti, nelle aule per seminari e in quelle per i colloqui, nella Casa Abate Hermann, e nell’Eucarestia nella nuova cappella, invece, sia uomini che donne tentano di distanziarsi dalla confusione della vita quotidiana. “Ci vogliono settimane, almeno due“ dice Padre Pio, il padre foresterario. “Cosi la forza del silenzio inizia la sua efficacia. In questo modo forse si gioira di essere forti, ma anche di poter mostrare debolezza.”

Un ospite lungo le scale testimonia: “Vengo qui gia da 31 anni. Questo luogo per me e fonte di spiritualita. Mi e utile per questo anche il colloquio con il padre foresterario, che sa ascoltare e lasciare le cose cosi come sono.” “Ora et labora!”, cosi dice la regola benedettina, “prega e lavora!”. Questo principio regola la giornata dei monaci. Padre Pio racconta: „Questo ritmo giornaliero sistematico, che alterna la preghiera al lavoro e alla lettura, per me e molto importante. Anche nelle sacre scritture e scritto ‘Pregate in ogni momento’. Il momento di preghiera mi aiuta a far si che anche ogni altra attivita diventi preghiera: il servizio all’ospite, il lavoro in giardino, nella vigna, con i macchinari, in biblioteca o all’ interno del museo. Tutto quello che faccio, anche tutto quello che accade, ogni ricerca e anche la sopportazione di qualcosa, tutto diviene cosi preghiera. Ho bisogno dell’Ora! in modo che anche il Labora! diventi preghiera, come anche il passatempo o il gioco a carte. Si diviene una persona felice, rendendo felice un’altra persona.”
